When a Friend Dies
First times are often uncomfortable
and uncontrollably painful
when someone close to you
leaves you with a mouthful
A mouthful of apologies
A heart full of love; unknown, unspoken and broken
You'll lay in bed till you're sore
Awake with feelings you can't ignore
The 2nd time is not as bad
but still somewhat confusing
when someone close to you leaves,
suddenly it's all not so amusing
the moments shared before the day
More enjoyed but somewhat afraid
Still you hunger in remorse
for what you regret is now the past
and what you vowed to appreciate
couldn't stay, couldn't last
The 3rd times a charm, or so they say
Maybe a little wisdom has been gained
This time you won't hold on so hard
or you'll share the truth without regard
